My Buddy’s Transport Requirements
1. All our buddy’s must be quarantined away from a shelter/pound/animal control facility for at least 12 days in a Foster Home/ Quarantine Facility/ Vet’s Office or Kennel. This will allow for any contagious illness they may have contracted to become apparent and can be treated before transport. Also, this allows time for vaccinations to become effective.
2. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires all animals being transported MUST have an Interstate Health Certificate issued from a Veterinarian licensed by the state from where your buddy is boarding our transport. This is a multiple carbon copy, multi-colored document with a USDA or APHIS Form # on the bottom left corner. The Health Certificate MUST be issued within 10 days from the date of your buddy being delivered (not picked up). This certificate ensures everyone involved that your buddy is healthy and up to date on vaccines. The Health certificate MUST be annotated with the name and address of the person adopting or fostering your buddy.
3. Along with the Health Certificate, Medical Records are required to show vaccine and fecal history. History must include Bordatella to prevent Kennel Cough (at least 10 days prior to transport), Rabies (canine 12 weeks or older) with tag, and 2 DA2PPC (Distemper, Adenovirus2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and Coronavirus) commonly known as Distemper vaccine. All shots/vaccinations should be up to date and clearly marked on the paperwork. NOTE (Giving the shots to a puppy for the first time on the day of the transport, protects them from nothing.) Negative fecal for intestinal parasites (coccidian, giardia, and hook) is required prior to transport.
4. Your buddy is required to be on some type of flea/tick prevention. If we see fleas or ticks on your buddy, we will not allow him/her to board our transport. Yuck! I gotta sleep on there too!
5. We will transport your buddy if she is pregnant, but require documentation from a licensed vet stating approximate due date is not to within 2 weeks of transport date. If she has puppies enroute, that’s an additional transport fee per puppy! (Just Kidding!)
6. Please don’t transport puppies before 10 weeks of age. Their immune systems haven’t matured enough and the health risk just isn’t worth it. Your adopter will be much happier with a healthy 10–12 week old buddy rather than a 10-12 week old buddy with a huge vet bill. (Been there, done that!)
7. We cannot transport your buddy if he/she has been diagnosed with a contagious condition such as Kennel Cough, intestinal parasites such as coccida, giardia or hookworm, sarcoptic mange (scabies), etc.
8. If possible, your buddy should be wearing some type of ID. This should include his/her name, phone number of who they are going to (adpoter, foster or rescue) or the same info from who they are coming from. The temporary collars your vet uses work great! We walk all of our buddys on slip leads, so a collar is not required. But please make sure your adopter brings a leash and collar to the pick up!
9. If your buddy has been spayed or neutered in the last 5 days, please wait until the next available transport. This is for the welfare of your buddy. We won’t transport if we think there is a chance your buddy could chew on their stitches and create a medical emergency.
10. If you think your buddy might travel better with his/her favorite blanket or toy, send it along! Please have your adopter remind the drivers to give it to them. We are usually very tired and always feel terrible if we forget to give to them. That also includes X-rays or meds.
11. Our #1 priority is to get your buddy to his/her forever home healthy, safely and quickly as possible. We rely on everyone to follow these requirements to ensure all of our buddies can have a long, happy life with their new families!
